All are invited to join Manchester Historical Society’s town walk down Bonnet Street in Manchester Center on Thursday, July 5. Michael Powers, MHS Board member, will regale the group with stories of the families, including his own, who built and occupied the houses on this downtown street. MHS curator Shawn Harrington will be on hand as well. The initial owner of the Bonnet Street land was Gilman Wilson. Arriving in Manchester about 1838, he acquired two marble mills on Munson Brook and a farm on Barnumville Road in addition to the Bonnet Street land. Many of the original houses are still standing. One of the houses is a Sears Roebuck house, the Alladin model. Neighborhood families include the Rowes, Graves, Shaws, Bennetts, Connells and Brewsters. This free, hour-long program will start outside Manchester’s First Baptist Church at 6 pm. For more information, please call 802.549.4582.
