The Manchester Historical Society is proud to present “For the Love of Vermont: The Lyman Orton Collection” from June 14 to September 7, in partnership with the Manchester Community Library.
In 2023 the Southern Vermont Arts Center hosted the first exhibition of paintings, drawings and prints from the private collection of Lyman Orton, which received rave reviews. Lyman began collecting scenes of Vermont in the 1970s, and he continues to repatriate “lost” artworks of his home state. The collection includes works by dozens of talented men and women during what Lyman calls the “Golden Era” of painting – the years from 1910 to 1970. This new exhibition includes approximately 70 artworks that were not previously exhibited, including a number of new acquisitions.
Exhibitions of works in the Lyman Orton Collection are presented by theme, rather than by artist. Arranging the work by subject matter gives viewers the opportunity to see how creatively artists interpreted similar scenes around Vermont.
The Manchester Public Library is located at 138 Cemetery Ave. in Manchester Center. The exhibit is open during regular library hours and admission is free. For more information about the Lyman Orton Collection, please visit: https://www.fortheloveofvermont.org
